San Diego preview #3: Brecht Evens' The Making Of

Oh boy, does this one look good. Brecht Evens is a Belgium-based cartoonist who is talented beyond his years (he may not even be 26 yet, which still seems very young from my vantage point).

Some of you may recall his Eisner-nominated debut graphic novel from a couple of years back, The Wrong Place, or his booklet from Top Shelf, Night Animals. Brecht seemed to have come out of nowhere, one of those rare cases when a talent emerges with a sensibility that is seemingly already fully formed.

Look at these gorgeous watercolors. If I remember from seeing him at TCAF last year, Brecht brings with him several small jars of color inks and then proceeds to paint elaborate images in each book. So don't miss him at our booth this year. Who knows when this Belgium superstar (and, evidently, legendary paramour) will be back in North America?

For those of you not at "SDCC" this year, The Making Of should be available in many stores by early August.
