A scant few weekends ago, when Canada was still very tentatively emerging from hibernation, the delightful Miriam Katin came to our Northern shores for two events - one in Ottawa at the Writers Fest and one in Montreal as part of Blue Met Bleu Literary Festival. She was greeted (as she well deserved) with crowds in both cities!
In Montreal, she gave a stirring, joyful, and often belly-laugh-inducing talk about her life as a cartoonist, also reading from her new book Letting It Go. D+Q's Chris Oliveros hosted a Q&A after the talk, which ranged in topic from her use of coloured pencil to being-the-eldest-on-the-payroll-at-MTV to how she got involved with D+Q. It was a standing-room-only crowd, and they loved it!
After the signing, we all went out to feast on our successes...
It was such a treat to meet Geoff (Miriam's husband, co-star in Letting It Go, and photographer at all her talks!), who took this opportunity to visit too! From L-R: Julia, Miriam, Tracy, Marina, Chris, Geoff, and new office staffer Jade.
We talked a little politics, a lot of gossip (I'll never tell!), and, most importantly, about the American Ambassador's Tea that Miriam and Geoff attended while in Ottawa. When we found out Miriam had been invited to the Ambassador's Residence, we insisted that she make a report for us of all her findings, and she very graciously acquiesced. So with no further ado...
A Cartoonist visits the Embassy of the United States, and reports in diary-form:
That's all she wrote, folks! And thanks again Miriam, for the report, for the visit, and for all the great stories.
