Autoptic Festival, PFC4, and Co Exhibitions proudly present The Jugglers, a mammoth exhibition of artwork by ten participating artists from the U.S., Canada, France and Belgium-- including Drawn and Quarterly-ers Marc Bell and Geneviève Castrée! The show will open with a reception at Co Exhibitions (1101 Stinson Blvd NE #2, Minneapolis, MN) tomorrow, Tuesday, August 13th, from 7 pm until midnight. The evening will also feature music by two Autoptic cartoonists: Zak Sally's band Pretty Ladies and Geneviève Castrée's Ô Paon.
The Jugglers highlights work in tremendously diverse media by a number of contemporary cartoonists. Many of these artists are known just as well in the worlds of painting, music, animation and design as they are in comics, exemplifying the broad interdisciplinary focus of the Autoptic festival. The Jugglers brings viewers into conversations between songwriting and comics, between illustrated posters and experimental animation, and between painting and porcelain sculpture. The Jugglers tramples the usual fences between comics and the other arts.
The show is a special part of the week's events leading up to the brand-new-but-already-amazing Autoptic Festival (August 18th) and the experimental comics residency-laboratory PFC (August 12th-17th, masterminded by the lovely June Misserey). This edition of PFC culminates in a show and artists' talk on Saturday August 17th at MCAD (details here). We're real proud to have a bunch of great D+Q artists out there representin'-- go check out work by Geneviève Castrée, Marc Bell, Anders Nilsen, Kevin Huizenga, John Porcellino, and Lisa Hanawalt! I am going to leave 'check out' open to interpretation.
Come on, Minneapolis, let me enjoy comic books Christmas vicariously through you. Please go have all the fun this week!
