Lissen up, New York City residents! You are the recipients of a rare opportunity to view a whole bunch of Seth original artwork, and I recommend you take this chance to stand, agog, before a whole lot of beautiful comics and pieces of art.
Adam Baumgold Gallery presents an exhibition of more than eighty drawings by Seth from his classic 1996 graphic novel It’s a Good Life, if You Don’t Weaken, plus a selection of early works. This is the perhaps the most extensive exhibit of Seth's comics to date, and certainly the first opportunity in many years to view originals from It's a Good Life.
Featured in the exhibition will be the original drawings, paintings and works on paper for the hardcover and softcover versions of It’s a Good Life…, as well as endpapers, title pages, book flaps, and more than fifty drawings from the interior pages from the book. Also included in the exhibition will be several paintings from Seth’s ongoing Palookaville series, where the book was first serialized. There will be a selection of early drawings and paintings on paper from covers and stories for Drawn & Quarterly magazine, as well as other projects.
The Adam Baumgold Gallery is located at 60 East 66th St, New York, NY, 10065, 212-861-7338. Gallery hours are from 11 am to 5:30 pm, Tuesday to Saturday. The exhibit opens today, and will be available for viewing until Saturday October 26, 2013.
P.S. While unfortunately Seth is unable to attend the opening, I am told a limited number of signed copies of Palookaville 21 will be available for purchase.
