Look Minnesota, we were already jealous that you get to hang out with Anders Nilsen all the time. Why you gotta flaunt it?
Award winning graphic novelist, illustrator, and artist Anders Nilsen will give a talk at the MSUM (Minnesota State University Moorhead) campus today. It sounds like a doozy - it will speak to the connections between Rage of Poseidon, Big Questions, and perhaps even his current work.
From the event writeup because they said it better than I could: Nilsen’s talk will pose questions such as: What would it mean for the god of the sea to visit present day Wisconsin? What if Jesus met the goddess of love in a bar? Nilsen’s new book, Rage of Poseidon, explores these questions and the original stories that inspired them. In the presentation, he will discuss the ties between old stories and new meanings in his own work and in the culture at large. Similar themes inform much of his other work, from Big Questions to his current graphic-novel-in-progress based on the myths of Sisyphus and Prometheus.
So there ya have it! Anders' presentation takes place tonight, Tuesday, October 8 at 7 p.m. in Fox Recital Hall in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts. And don't forget, if you're not in Minnesota, but you are in or near San Francisco, you have a second chance to see him speak this week -- just get tickets for APE where Anders is a special guest!
