Here's a sneaky unbelievably funny book. Anouk Ricard is well-known by discerning comics readers as the creator of the Anna & Froga books—the crabby, sweet kids comics about a group of friends. Anouk actually has a wide range of work in her native French and Benson's Cuckoos is one of her adult humour books. It's a workplace comedy, it's a mystery story, it's a goofball romance—it's pretty much everything you would want in a comic, right?
Anouk maintains her low-key deadpan approach but inserts surprising violence and sexual innuendo. Please don't buy this book for your seven year old. Our long-time translator Helge Dascher worked her magic on this book—sharp funny dialogue. And her research!! Please ask Helge or I about our extended fishstick related email volley sometime. Hilarious stuff.
Shifty sunglasses-wearing rat character as a disinterested psychiatrist? You got it.
Vomit jokes. Yes Yes. Look for this book dropping on June 10th in a refined and caring bookshop or comics emporium near you.
Or, for those of you lucky Londoners attending this year's ELCAF, you will be able to snag a debut copy on Saturday June 14th and then get it signed by Anouk, who is one of ELCAF's special guests. She'll also be giving a talk. Stay tuned to this space for more news about D+Q's presence at the show in the coming weeks. We're very excited to be exhibiting at ELCAF for the first time.
